Ancient Chinese shipwreck

From People's Daily Online:

Archeologist recently discovered a large ancient wooden ship sunk but intact at an ancient harbor site in Penglai of Shandong. Preliminary conjecture attributes that ship to Yuan Dynasty, which was more than 600 years from now in the past. This is the first time in 20 years that China has discovered a large ancient sunken ship.
Sometimes I just post things as notes to myself for future short story fodder.

This + Robert E. Howard + the Bulgarian treasures/graves... You're going to need another blog, The Scourge of High Kush or somesuch ;)

Actually, the good folks over at Making Light are having a fun extension of the "Zombies are not metaphors" with another discussion about what differentiates the different types of fantastic genres.

Seriously, I'd love to write 1930s style pulp adventures full of high adventure and horror. Very retro, old school stories. The modern rendition of Weird Tales and other similar mags seem to go for more angst filled stories and Clive Barker wannabes.

I've tried my hand at it - it's hard to do without going *way* overboard. Like doing an HPL homage... You've got to have a light and deft touch.

BTW, visitor #11,000 has graced you with their presence...
