Amityville's latest horror: tourists!

Hey you kids, get off my lawn. The New York Daily News has the story:

Amityville's Ocean Ave. is a realtor's dream. American flags flutter, Volvos sit in driveways and kids pedal their bikes down the street of this idyllic South Shore village.

It was that kind of neighborhood on Nov. 13, 1974, when Ronald (Butch) DeFeo Jr. grabbed a .35-caliber rifle and killed his parents and four siblings as they slept.

The DeFeo murders and the supernatural claims about their Ocean Ave. house inspired the film "The Amityville Horror," seven sequels and a slew of books, Web sites and television shows.

On April 15, a widescreen remake of the original will puncture that calm yet again - and the village isn't happy.

"Every time a new movie or TV show comes out, it just dredges up the past and draws tourists to the house," said Seth Purdy, a curator at the Amityville Historical Society.
