DIY Monday: Soooper-seeeecrit rooms

Plotting a global takeover? Trying to hide the entrance to your secret laboratory? Looking for a place to stash your zombie army so as to:

  • not tip off the authorities (they're so small-minded when it comes to global domination)
  • preserve domestic tranquility (even with an understanding partner, some things are harder to explain than others)
  • cut down on housekeeping expenses (hey, gotta keep the zombies fresh, or things... fall off)
  • If any of these things describe your current situation, fear not! Find out how to make your very own ever-popular room-behind-a-bookcase here. Note the clever trigger... I'm sure you could come up with plenty of alternative configurations. You could have the play-at-home version of "Put the candle... back!".

Oh yeah - hat tip goes to Vestal Design, with an assist to Boing-Boing.

You know that's my dream don't you? To have an old house filled with secret rooms just like this.

Did you check out the website? The guy did it in what looks to be a condo or townhouse... His hidden room is his water heater! What a waste! He needs zombie armies. Or a dissecting table. Oooooh, that's it - a dissecting table!

    ahem

You don't need old; old is overrated - they're drafty, and none of the corners are square anymore ;-) (But they do look better)

Forsooth such talk of drafts and corners that are no longer square! What import are they when speaking of a man's dream? Nay, good sir, give me a home worthy of being a man's castle - with dungeons and towers and secret passages and thick walls of stone and timber beams.

I'll remind you of that when you're complaining about removing a couple centuries-worth of mouse nests from behind your wainscoting. Bleh.
