I look at this site on a fairly regular basis and I really enjoy it. Maybe you answered the following questiond previously but I missed it. In your opinion what exactly is a ghost? Is it a soul? Or is just left over energy? Do you believe ghosts could live on the internet?

Great questions, Nell. I'm glad you enjoy the site. I hope my answer doesn't disappoint you. Because my answer is: I don't know. I don't think it's a soul. I suspect the answer lies closer to a form of energy. When you think how little is truly known about how the brain works, how little thought and memory are understood, or for that matter, how much remains unknown about the natural world, it's understandable that so little is understood about the supernatural. And if a ghost is a form of energy it is certainly conceivable it could haunt the Internet.

There's a quote of Albert Einstein's I like. "The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed."

That is true if you think of a "soul" as a noun. English, and the Ancient Greek (and Latin) it is based upon are very noun/object based languages.

Soul can also be interpreted as an action word. Aramaic was a very verb-based language, and the ancient concept of soul is more in line with Black-Americans version of: "He's got soul." There's an action/attitude or idea of energy associated with and permeating the being.

Aura -- that's the word I was searching for. Those are good points, 42. As a Christian, I believe the soul belongs to God so what is left behind is something else, an aura of a person's energy or life force or something we cannot conceptualize, but that exists nonetheless and remains to haunt us.
